I expect that gaming is more of a social thing for a lot of gamers who play on PC and Consoles (as opposed to gaming on your phone, which is probably more often to pass the time).Īnd I mean, Stardew Valley's creator didn't need that kind of advertisement lolĬherry picking examples works both ways. It's not hard for me to find a consistent group, just hard for me to get my group to play these games. It's my personal experience that my gaming friends tend to be uninterested in this genre. Like you said, having a consistent group of people to play with is just impossible And, I'd argue that Minecraft has been heavily built around online play since sometime in Alpha. Back then, online gaming was not as big as it is now. Minecraft was developed well over 10 years ago. Not to mention it's probably a good idea to develop with online play in mind instead of having to retrofit a complete single-player game for online play. I'm just hypothesizing as to why it's probably much more lucrative to design with multiplayer in mind from the beginning. It's still a grind, and it's kind of aimless later on, but for the right audience, that's fine. ![]() Plus, there are multiple biomes to explore. The cadence of preparing for the blood moon is its own little end game. The game has no specific endgoal, but that's not the point I guess. There are introductory "quests" and tasks to complete. In Minecraft, though, you reach that dichotomy more quickly. At night, you're often stuck inside where you can spend time crafting, mining, managing your storage, or building your base. And if you lose your shit in a bad spot, you may have to start at square one.ĭuring the day, you can freely explore and usually steer clear of zeds without issue. So, you will not only feel the need to grind but start to feel as if you don't have enough time to do it.
